There are two events forming, one on the 17th of May and another one during Brighton Pride and I'm currently fishing for some talents! theres the link

Art Installation Proposal

“REMEMBER 1983 / PAMIETAM 1983”

The idea for this installation came about exploring flea markets and charity shops around Brighton. Many objects from those outlets resemble design present in socialist Poland of ’83 (30 years ago). I’m interested in altering the look of certain objects to give them a different feel, in this case changing the look of purely British objects (a vase, a conserve tin, a glass etc.) by engraving, labelling, altering with paint etc. to make them look like objects commonly known in Poland before the fall of Berlin Wall. I’ve worked with similar technique in my WW2 project, where I altered second hand objects into wartime memorabilia.

By using these altered objects in an art exhibition I would like to point out that although these two countries had different states of economics back then, people still shared similar lifestyle, had need for similar objects and, in a soft way look at cultural differences of what was available on polish market of economy of shortage and the boom of British market. The installation aims to conflict the two and invite the viewer to look at past era through a different perspective.

I shall gather enough objects and play around with them looking at best placement in the glass cabinet of ‘Avago’, which oddly resembles shop cabinets in socialist Poland. Perhaps an introduction of printed letters/tickets/notifications in Polish is possible, hinting at a different language., therefore informing the audience of my approach to the subject.

The goal of the installation would be highlighting not just the cultural differences but also the cultural similarities in the past, which most people can still relate to.
