This piece of work is inspired by the humble phone and it's influence in life of many young men. It's a tool of socialising and self-promotion quite often taken for granted. the messages and stories within them paint an image of the owner and in broader spectrum one of a modern society.

Sketchbook scans.

Few sketches worth having a look at.

"Hole in the Whole"

Studio practice. If the large area of British flag responds to the population of UK, the small rectangle is the percentage of Polish people within the UK accordingly; it is also the Polish flag.

"Bloodline"

Studio practice, pushing the idea of knives forward (and outside)

Anti-ACTA

ACTA is a plurilateral agreement for the purpose of establishing international standards for intellectual property rights enforcement. The agreement aims to establish an international legal framework for targeting counterfeit goods, generic medicines and copyright infringement on the Internet, and would create a new governing body outside existing forums, such as the World Trade Organization, the World Intellectual Property Organization, or the United Nations.

That's the legal stuff. If you don't know about it yet, you'll find out soon. ACTA will block the freedom of internet as we know it. We've all got a voice.

Wislawa Szymborska Tribute...?!

Today around noon I took an art exercise. I wrote part of poem "Water" by my favourite poet - (Wislawa Szymborska, a 1996 Nobel Prize winner) layered in two languages on a piece of card. I then took photos of it in water. didnt think much of that project.

Wislawa Szymborska died an hour ago aged 89. I never experienced such weird coincidence regarding my work, its inspiration and tribute. RIP.

below one of the poems, sadly, this one is on death.

A Cat in an Empty Apartment
Wislawa Szymborska
Die? One does not do that to a cat.
Because what's a cat to do
in an empty apartment?
Climb the walls.
Caress against the furniture.
It seems that nothing has changed here,
but yet things are different.
Nothing appears to have been relocated,
yet everything has been shuffled about.
The lamp no longer burns in the evenings.

Footsteps can be heard on the stairway,
but they're not the ones.
The hand which puts the fish on the platter
is not the same one which used to do it.

Something here does not begin
at its usual time.
Something does not happen quite
as it should
Here someone was and was,
then suddenly disappeared
and now is stubbornly absent.
All the closets were peered into.
The shelves were walked through.
The rug was lifted and examined.
Even the rule about not scattering
papers was violated.

What more is to be done?
Sleep and wait.

Let him return,
at least make a token appearance.
Then he'll learn
that one shouldn't treat a cat like this.
He will be approached
as though unwillingly,
slowly,
on very offended paws.
With no spontaneous leaps or squeals at first.

Art Installation Proposal

“REMEMBER 1983 / PAMIETAM 1983”

The idea for this installation came about exploring flea markets and charity shops around Brighton. Many objects from those outlets resemble design present in socialist Poland of ’83 (30 years ago). I’m interested in altering the look of certain objects to give them a different feel, in this case changing the look of purely British objects (a vase, a conserve tin, a glass etc.) by engraving, labelling, altering with paint etc. to make them look like objects commonly known in Poland before the fall of Berlin Wall. I’ve worked with similar technique in my WW2 project, where I altered second hand objects into wartime memorabilia.

By using these altered objects in an art exhibition I would like to point out that although these two countries had different states of economics back then, people still shared similar lifestyle, had need for similar objects and, in a soft way look at cultural differences of what was available on polish market of economy of shortage and the boom of British market. The installation aims to conflict the two and invite the viewer to look at past era through a different perspective.

I shall gather enough objects and play around with them looking at best placement in the glass cabinet of ‘Avago’, which oddly resembles shop cabinets in socialist Poland. Perhaps an introduction of printed letters/tickets/notifications in Polish is possible, hinting at a different language., therefore informing the audience of my approach to the subject.

The goal of the installation would be highlighting not just the cultural differences but also the cultural similarities in the past, which most people can still relate to.
